KRAFT FOODS UK PLANS FOR GROWTH WITH SHEFFIELD MANUFACTURING INVESTMENT
Kraft Foods has today announced proposals for further investment in the UK, one of its key global markets and a major manufacturing base for the company. The £50 million investment programme will expand Kraft‟s UK manufacturing capacity and drive productivity towards world-class levels, including plans to expand production at the Sheffield factory.
A £6 million investment at Sheffield will make it possible to bake Oreo and BelVita biscuits in the UK for the first time, alongside Trebor, Maynards and Bassetts candy. This new investment in biscuits, coupled with ongoing investment in candy, will increase output and productivity at the Sheffield plant and result in a net increase of approximately 20 manufacturing jobs.
Ian Dearn, Head of Manufacturing for Kraft in Sheffield, said: “It is great that Kraft Foods recognises the strength of the UK as a manufacturing centre. We are proud to have been selected to bring the manufacture of BelVita and world-famous Oreo cookies to the UK for the first time. We are also excited about the opportunity to create new partnerships with local farmers to supply the wheat for these iconic products.”
Kraft is also investing in the local workforce, having recruited apprentices at the Sheffield plant for the first time in over 25 years.
Kraft’s Sheffield factory, home to favourites like Jelly Babies and Liquorice Allsorts, is the largest sugar confectionery plant in Europe.
The announcement by Kraft builds on the £22M already invested by the Group in the Sheffield facility.
